飛翔的天堂鳥

早上送Danielle上學的途中，爸爸問她：「妳今天的第一件事要做什麼？」
她回答：「我到教室把書包放下，然後打開書包，then I ‘ll do my reading test and pass the reading test.」（我心想她好有自信。）
爸爸接著問：「那第二件事是什麼？」
她回答：「Mrs. Guy will announce “Danielle pass 500 points” in the class. Then everyone will clap for me.」（原來她心裡已經預備了這幅圖畫，我暗自佩服她的自信，但也竊竊擔心如果事情不是這麼發生。）

下車前，她自動的做了一個禱告。她說：「Dear Jesus, please let me pass the reading test and let me be a good kid. Thank you Jesus. Pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. 」

我們慣例的互道”I love you.” 我在車上望著她走進校門。一路上我想著，這一週她為了趕在爸爸去英國之前能從450分增加到超過500分，她在這週課餘時間已經讀了超過500頁的書，其實她的自我期許和自我控制讓我覺得欣慰。固然是因為500分的獎賞”a complete dinner at Rain Forest Cafe”，但她展示的企圖心、自制和自信有點出我意外。上週她討價還價讓我以450分就成交，我堅持不妥協，我只答付”volcano” （desert）的錢，如果她只準備停在450分。因為我們共同為她這學期所定的目標是500分，在她能力所及要學習堅持到學期最後。

事實上，我想就算她沒有pass，我也決定請她吃飯了，只是不能告訴她，免得她太早放棄。我想認可鼓勵她所付出的努力過程，勝過最後的成敗結果。最終我們希望她能體會，我們看重她的自我管理、自我負責和努力勝過她的最後成就。I clap for her in my heart. 其實我們已經把相機帶在身邊，準備晚上到Rai n Forest Cafe.

Danielle got 508 points in total. She received claps in her class and lots of “ high five” from her friends. And the most important thing, she had a complete dinner at Rain Forest Cafe.
